Guest preacher Chad Kincer leads us through the familiar story of David and Goliath and reminds us that we, like the Israelites, desperately need a good and mighty king to defeat the enemies of God on our behalf. As God sends a rescuer to his people, we are reminded that God is not ashamed of our darkness, weakness, or need, but actually moves toward us because of these things. We see in this passage the entire story of the Bible in miniature: the Spirit anointed savior defeats the evil serpent that brings death and destruction to God's people.

As we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus this Easter we are reminded of the scribe who, like us, asks Jesus, "Which command is the most important of all?" Jesus' response in this conversation creates tension, telling the scribe that he was not far from the kingdom of God, but he wasn't quite there yet. We see that only through faith in Jesus, the one who fulfills God's commands perfectly and who died and was raised from the dead, do we hear on that last day, "Well done."
