Why Elders and Deacons?
We believe scripture teaches that the local church was designed by God to be led by two offices in the church:
one called elder or overseer and the other called deacon. Though we use the term pastor interchangeably with the term elder, scripture provides clarity about the form and function of both offices.
An elder is a called, competent, tested, and qualified male leader in the church (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Acts 14:21-23, & Acts 20:28). We believe scripture is clear that an elder’s role is to lead and shepherd the church primarily through faithfully preaching the Word (2 Timothy 4:2), guarding the church’s vision and doctrine (Titus 2:1), and equipping God’s people for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-16).
A deacon is any man or woman that is called by God and similarly tested and commissioned by the elders of the church to lead through serving (1 Timothy 3:8-13). Deacons disciple and lead various ministries in the church under the authority and leadership of the elders of the local church (Acts 6:1-7 & Romans 16:1-13).

ELDERS
Elders (pastors) are a team of biblically qualified men who shepherd Jesus’ church by knowing, feeding, leading, and protecting the church family, each serving with different roles and responsibilities as under-shepherds to the Chief Shepherd, Jesus.

DEACONS
Deacons lead within the local church alongside elders to care for and facilitate mission towards the practical needs of the body. Earlier this year we began developing a handful of men and women who sensed a call from God to serve in this office. They have been trained and tested in accordance with the biblical qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
