Pastor John’s sermon from Ecclesiastes 5:8–6:12 exposes our tendency to believe that more money, possessions, success, or security will finally give us the life we want, yet none of these things can satisfy us or secure our future. God invites us instead to receive and enjoy His good gifts while trusting Him with what we cannot control. Ultimately, Jesus is the answer to our deepest longing for security: He entered our fleeting and broken world, experienced hunger, suffering, and injustice, and gave Himself on the cross to reconcile us to God. Through Christ, we can learn contentment in both abundance and need because our lives no longer depend on what we have, but on the God who gives Himself to us and promises never to leave us. We can’t buy the good life; we receive it through Jesus.
